GM To List Certified Used Vehicles on eBay
Posted Feb 14, 2008 @ 12:05 am

Soon you won't have to deal with this guy to pick up a certified used vehicle from a GM dealer. The General has struck a deal with eBay Motors to list their entire certified used inventory on the popular auction website. We're not sure how many vehicles that equates to, but it's sure to be quite a large number considering there are nearly 4,000 GM dealers with certified used lots nationwide.
Just how much did GM have to pony up to use eBay Motors? Zilch. Now that's a deal!
Press release after the jump...

GM To Update Ohio Plant For New Diesel Engines
Posted Feb 07, 2008 @ 11:37 pm
The General has announced it will spend $69 million to update the Moraine, Ohio plant to build the next generation Duramax diesel engines. The current Duramax powerplants will have to be continued by 2010 when more stringent emission standards go into effect. The next gen Duramax engine will feature a catalytic reduction NOx after-treatment system and a particulate filter. These new additions will help the engine meet Tier 2 BIN and LEV 2 emissions standards.
Will these new cleaner diesels make it into passanger cars such as the Impala? One can only hope...

VIDEO: Lutz Tells Reuters How It Is
Posted Jan 01, 2008 @ 12:11 am
Bob Lutz talks to Reuters about a number of issues including America's trade defecit, hybrids and CAFE standards. Maximum Bob says he thinks it is unsustainable to operate an economy like the US's that imports nearly all goods and exports next to nothing. Bob goes on to say that he is hopefully for the future, mentioning that the weak US dollar should make US manufacturing more competitive. On the topic of hybrids, Lutz admits that not getting a hybrid to market quick enough was a big mistake, but he hopes the Volt will make up for it. The interview wraps up with a very short explanation on the short fallings of the new CAFE standards.

GM Finally Enters The Bluetooth Game
Posted Dec 20, 2007 @ 5:53 pm
The new CTS comes with a whole lot of bells and whistles. But even with the pop-up nav screen and the 40 GB hard drive, there was still one feature that many consumers felt was lacking: Bluetooth. With the majority of the cell phones on the market these days coming with Bluetooth connectivity and more and more states banning cell phone use without a hands free kit, Bluetooth has become a very desirable feature in vehicles, especially in the luxury segment.
Currently, the Cadillac STS is the only GM car with integrated Bluetooth, but that will soon change. By the 2009 model year, 30 GM models will have integrated Bluetooth. While GM is currently far behind competitors in Bluetooth integration, by 2009 the company should be an industry leader. Just another example of what Bob Lutz was talking about when he said GM is as nimble as any full-line vehicle manufacturer.

Bob Says It Ain't So!
Posted Dec 14, 2007 @ 7:20 am
Good news for GM fans everywhere: Bob Lutz has denied he is planning to retire in 2010 in an interview with Auto News. Earlier in the week, the AP published a report stating that Lutz was planning to retire after the launch of the Volt in 2010. Lutz maintains that he doesn't have a plan to retire and that it will happen whenever he feels he's ready for it. Lutz said "Unfortunately, this was misinterpreted as a statement that I would retire at the end of 2010. While this remains a possibility, it is not 'a plan'! We'll just take it a year at a time!"
Hopefully Maximum Bob will stay beyond 2010, but he will be nearly 80 years old by then!

Say It Ain't So Bob!
Posted Dec 13, 2007 @ 5:38 am

Reports have been popping up all over the net that Bob Lutz, GM's vice chaiman for global product development, is thinking about retiring in 2010 after the Chevy Volt is released. "Maximum" Bob has been responsible for many of the positive changes that have taken place at GM over the last 6 years. Many credit GM's cigar chomping, jet flying exec for the company's renewed focus on design, which can be seen in new models such as the Buick Enclave and 2008 Chevy Malibu. The loss of Bob Lutz would leave some big shoes to fill. Let's hope it doesn't happen too soon.
