Chicago 2008: HHR Gets Greener
Posted Feb 10, 2008 @ 9:04 pm

For 2009, the Chevy HHR is getting a few powertrain tweaks. First, the 2.2L engine will get variable valve timing, a feature that previously was only available on the larger 2.4L engine. Additionally, both engines will be able to run on E85 ethanol. GM reports that the HHR has seen a sales spike as a result of the market moving towards smaller vehicles. Last month, HHR sales were up 73% compared to January 2007.

Chicago 2008: Chevy Traverse Unveiled
Posted Feb 10, 2008 @ 5:48 pm

Arriving fashionably late to the CUV party is the Chevy Traverse. The 7 seater is built on the Lambda platform, which it shares with the Saturn Outlook, the Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia. The Traverse is expected to be the volume seller of the bunch and will likely be priced in the same neighborhood as the Outlook.
All of the Lambda CUVs have unique sheet metal, but the Traverse does seem to feature a swooping back end, similar to the one found on the Enclave. The Traverse sports Chevy's new agressive schnozz that debuted on the 2008 Malibu. Other styling cues lifted from the Malibu include the rounded taillights.
More details and analysis after the jump...

Malibu Named Best Redesigned Vehicle
Posted Jan 01, 2008 @ 12:48 am

Praise for the Chevy Malibu just keep on coming, this time courtesy of the Kelly Blue Book. The Malibu bested the field of 30 to win the KBB's "Best Redesigned Vehicle" award. Here's what KBB has to say about GM's new Camcord fighter:
KBB has named the Chevrolet Malibu winner of the "2008 Best Redesigned Vehicle" award from a field of 30 contenders. The re-engineered vehicle takes the mid-size car category to a new level of refinement. Its stylish sheetmetal, attractive interior and well-sorted handling combine to produce a value equation that set it apart. "The Malibu solidified its case for the award with a remake that's nothing less than game-changing," said Jack R. Nerad, executive editorial director for Kelley Blue Book. "The new Malibu has earned its place at the top of one of the most competitive categories in the industry."

First "Retailable" ZR1 To Be Auctioned For Charity
Posted Dec 30, 2007 @ 7:33 pm

If you've got a few hundred Gs burning a hole in your pocket (and really, who doesn't?), you'll want to check out the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale next month. Up for auction is the very first "retailable" (is that even a word?) 2009 Corvette ZR1. Also up for auction are the first production Dodge Challenger SRT8 and the first production 2008 Shelby GT500 KR.
The best part is, all the proceeds go to benefit charity, so you can write it off on your taxes, making the ZR1 totally affordable! On a serious note, the sales are going to benefit several worthy causes (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, The United Way, and notMYkid).

Tundra Wins Motor Trend 2008 TOTY
Posted Dec 21, 2007 @ 2:43 pm
That's right. The cam shaft snapping, tailgate breaking, transmission shaft seperating, butt-ugly Toyota Tundra has won Motor Trend's Truck of The Year award. The Tundra beat out the HD versions of the Silverado and Sierra as well as the Ford Super Duty line. The least capable, least reliable, worst looking truck won. It would appear that the Motor Trend awards go to the car that spent the most on advertising, which definately cheapens the CTS's Car of The Year Award. Luckily these awards are meaningless.

GM Selling Medium Duty Truck Unit To Navistar
Posted Dec 21, 2007 @ 8:49 am

Fare thee well GMC Topkick and Chevy Kodiak. Certain assets, intellectual property and distribution rights for the production and sales of those two medium duty trucks are set to be sold to Navistar. A subsidiary of International Trucks, Navistar was the engine supplier for Ford's Super Duty trucks... until their engines caused flames to shoot out of the tail pipes and Ford dumped them.
The Navistar GM deal is currently an agreement of principle. That basically means they have agreed on the overall terms of the sale, but the exact details have yet to be worked out. The deal is expected to be finalized in the coming months.

Detroit: Corvette ZR1 Finally Revealed!
Posted Dec 21, 2007 @ 6:39 am

It's finally happened! The Corvette we've been hearing about for the better part of 6 years has finally been unveiled and is coming to the Detroit Auto Show. Frequently referred to as the Blue Devil or the Corvette SS, the official name of the $100,000 vette is the Corvette ZR1.
Fitted with lots of carbon fiber and a clear lexan window in the hood, the Corvette ZR1 packs more power than any GM car to date. The ZR1 is powered by the new LS9 powerplant. The LS9 is 6.2 L supercharged V8 that churns out a staggering 620 hp and 595 ft lb of torque. So how fast does all that power make the ZR1? Chevrolet says the 0-60 time for the new super car will be in the low 3 second range.

GMC Terrain Coming In MY 2009
Posted Dec 20, 2007 @ 11:57 am
The GMC lineup will be one vehicle larger come the 2009 model year. GMC is slated to receive its second CUV, the Terrain. The 2009 GMC Terrain is not to be confused with the GMC Terrain that is about to go on sale in the Middle East. The Terrain in the Middle East is a rebadged Saturn Vue / Opel Antara. The Terrain bound for North America will be built off the an updated version of the Theta platform, which will also underpin the next gen Chevy Equinox.
GM has been much critized for its lazy "badge engineering", but the Equinox and the Terrain should look significantly different, as each will receive unique sheet metal.
The GMC Terrain will in a sense replace the Pontiac Torrent. As the General attempts to realign its brands, Pontiac will lose its only truck (if you care to call a CUV a truck) and refocus its attention on performance cars.
