China To Get LaCrosse Hybrid In Time For Olympics

Posted Dec 20, 2007 @ 12:38 pm

China To Get LaCrosse Hybrid In Time For Olympics

Sorry North American Buick fans, you now have one more reason to envy the Chinese LaCrosse. As if it wasn't bad enough that the Chinese LaCrosse is WAY cooler looking than the NA model, the Chinese version is also the first to get a hybrid powertrain.

That's right, China is about to be bestowed with its first hybrid from the General. Shortly before the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, a hybrid version of the Buick LaCrosse will come to market in China. The hybrid system used in the LaCrosse will be the belt alternator system (aka "mild hybrid") currently used on the Saturn Aura Hybrid.

The LaCrosse Hybrid will cost about $2,500 and will achieve roughly 25% better fuel economy than it's non-hybrid counterpart. While this is the first GM hybrid in China, it is by no means the first hybrid to hit the country, as Toyota and Honda already have them for sale in China.

Detroit: Buick Riviera Concept To Make NA Debut

Detroit: Buick Riviera Concept To Make NA Debut

You might remember this oh-so-sexy gull winged coupe from the Shanghai Motor Show. For those of you who don't, this is the Buick Riviera concept, which was designed by GM's Chinese design studio. The latest and greatest Buick concept will be making its North American debut next month at the auto show in Detroit. Unfortunately, Buick has said their are no plans to produce the Riviera.

Taking cues from a previous Buick concept (the Velite), the Riviera's bold styling is reportedly a hint at what future Buicks will look like. The first production Buick to be graced with this styling will be the next gen Lacrosse (no word yet on when that's coming).

Detroit: GM Dominates NACOTY and NATOTY Nominations

Posted Dec 13, 2007 @ 5:21 am

Detroit: GM Dominates NACOTY and NATOTY NominationsLast year at the Detroit Auto Show, General Motors swept the North American Car and Truck of the Year awards with the Saturn Aura and the Chevy Silverado. Think the General can pull of the repeat? Well it's looking like there's a pretty good chance that it could happen, with GM cars and trucks making up four of the six nominees for this year's award.

Up for NACOTY are the Cadillac CTS, Chevy Malibu and Honda Accord. The new Accord is a nice car... but its lackluster styling leads us to believe that this award is going to either the CTS or the 'bu.

The Hybrid Tahoe, Buick Enclave and Mazda CX-9 are the nominees for NATOTY. The CX-9 provides some good competition for the General's offering. Mazda's popular CUV is stylish, performs well and has already been named Motor Trend's SUV of the year.

General Motor's domination of the award nominations is a clear indication that GM's commitment to product is paying off. Kudos to Bob Lutz and the rest of the GM team!

The NACOTY and NATOTY awards are voted on by 50 North American auto journalists. The awards will be announced at the Detroit Auto Show next month.

Buick Ties with Lexus for #1 in JD Power Vehicle Dependability

Posted Aug 09, 2007 @ 10:22 pm

Today JD Power released their Vehicle Dependability rankings and Buick and Lexus came out on top. The Vehicle Dependability rankings are based on the number of problems consumers have had with their cars since buying them 3 years ago. So this year's rankings reflect how reliable 2004 model year vehicles were built.

Buick jumped from 3rd last year to a tie for first with Lexus at 145 problems per 100 vehicles. Rounding out the top five are Cadillac (162), Mercury (168), and Honda (169). Domestic fans will be pleased to notice that 3 out of the top 5 brands were American.

Maybe it's about time the public started giving GM its due for making more reliable cars!
