Posted Mar 02, 2008 @ 10:32 pm

Prior to its unveiling at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, Opel has released details and photos of the Opel Meriva Concept. The four door hatchback features Opel's new design language, first seen in the previous GTC and Flextreme concepts.
The Meriva concept features a few unique design elements including suicide doors, which Opel is calling "FlexDoors". Another notable design element is the windshield, which continues up onto the roof to create two long, narrow sun roofs.
The Meriva concept is a vast improvement over the current production Meriva, which is a pretty boring and forgettable hatch. Will we see the Meriva on US shores as a Saturn? Right now it looks doubtful, but if American consumer preferences continue to shift towards smaller cars, it's possible.

Corvette 427 Limited Edition Z06: Pays Homage To Stingrays Of Past
Posted Mar 01, 2008 @ 1:20 am

If you dig the looks of the late 60s Stingrays but want the 505 HP of today's Z06, you're in luck. Starting this spring, the 427 Limited Edition Z06 will be available for a cool $84,000. 427 is the displacement in cubic inches of the top-end engines offered on the 67-69 Stingrays as well as the LS7 found in the ZO6. So what does the 427 Limited Edition give you that your standard Z06 lacks? Glad you asked:
427 of these special edition 'vettes will be produced for the US, along with 78 more for overseas markets. That brings the total production to 505, which just so happens to be the amount of horses this bad boy packs.

Chevy Recalls 180,000 HHRs
Posted Mar 01, 2008 @ 12:55 am

GM has informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of a defect in HHRs that poses a potential risk of head injury. Roughly 180,000 of the Chevrolet retro wagons have been recalled. The affected models are HHRs without the optional roof rail airbags from model years 2006-2008.
The defect was discovered in December during GM safety tests, which showed the models lacking the roof rail airbags failed to meet federal standards. To fix the problem, Chevy dealers will install energy absorbing padding in the headliner.

Cadillac XLR Getting Restyled?
Posted Feb 28, 2008 @ 10:02 pm

Word on the street is that the Cadillac XLR roadster is set to get redesigned and we could get a sneak peak of it as soon as July. While this is still just a rumor at this point, it seems a facelift for the XLR is entirely possible... and entirely necessary. Sales of the XLR have dropped off in recent years, and the design looks incredibly aged, especially when compared to the new CTS.
If the Cadillac designers can come up with a design as sexy as the CTS, maybe the XLR will finally become the flagship car it was intended to be.

GM Posts 2007 Financial Numbers
Posted Feb 28, 2008 @ 9:56 pm
GM has announced their financial results for 2007 and it ain't pretty. GM posted the largest loss of any company in US history; a loss of $38.3 billion. However, most of that loss comes from a $38.6 billion charge from the 3rd quarter due to some tax credit adjustments. Excluding special items (such as the tax credit adjustment), GM posted a loss of $23 million in 2007. One glaring problem for the company is still North America, which continues to bleed money. In 2007, North American vehicles lost GM $1.5 billion.
On a brighter note, GM is making strides in their overseas business. Last year, GM earned $553 million on global auto sales, up from 2006's $339 million loss.

Euro 3-Door Chevy Aveo Unveiled
Posted Feb 28, 2008 @ 9:46 pm

Chevy has taken the wraps off the next gen 3-Door Aveo bound for European show rooms. We've already seen the 5-door, and the 3 door is basically the same. Notable features include an enormous grille and some cheesy fender vents. While it is an improvement over the outgoing Aveo, it is by no means a world beater.
Don't exepct this vehicle to hit US shores anytime soon. Currently only the 5 door Aveo hatch is scheduled for North America.
Press release after the jump...

Frozen Saab Aero-X On Display in Sweden
Posted Feb 28, 2008 @ 9:39 pm

The hot gull-winged Saab Aero-X concept from last year's Geneva Motor Show has gone cold. Ice cold that is. Saab's bold concept car has been recreated in ice by ice sculptor Tjåsa Gusfors and Saab chief designer Simon Padian. The frozen Saab is currently on display at the ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden.
The ice sculpture of the Aero-X is part of the "Saab Move Your Mind Room" at the ICEHOTEL. This promotion "allows the public to experience Saab – the brand, its spirit, tonality and core values through innovative design installations made wholly from ice."

GM To List Certified Used Vehicles on eBay
Posted Feb 14, 2008 @ 12:05 am

Soon you won't have to deal with this guy to pick up a certified used vehicle from a GM dealer. The General has struck a deal with eBay Motors to list their entire certified used inventory on the popular auction website. We're not sure how many vehicles that equates to, but it's sure to be quite a large number considering there are nearly 4,000 GM dealers with certified used lots nationwide.
Just how much did GM have to pony up to use eBay Motors? Zilch. Now that's a deal!
