Corvette C7 (maybe?) Spotted On Transformers 2 Set
Posted Jul 16, 2008 @ 4:06 pm

We've already seen some small, blurry pictures of a silver mystery car on the set of Transformers 2, but we now have a nice, clear photo of what we believe to be a concept for the next generation Corvette, the C7. With a more angular and aggressive look, the C7 concept is quite a departure from the previous generation C6 Corvette.
Also spotted on the set were the Chevy Trax and Chevy Beat, two mini-cars unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show a year ago. The Beat is being readied for production in Europe, but there has been no word on whether the Trax will be produced.

Lutz: No Beat for US, Small CUVs Coming
Posted Jul 15, 2008 @ 12:32 pm

After Rick Wagoner's media address, "Maximum" Bob Lutz dished out some info regarding GM's future product plans.
One big piece of news is that the Chevy Beat won't be coming to North America anytime soon. Lutz sites safety standards as the reason we won't be seeing this mini-car on our shores. Development of the Beat started long before we had $4 gas in the US, so it wasn't intended to be brought to the US. As such, it wasn't designed to pass US safety standards. According to Lutz, it would take 2 years and cost too much money to re-engineer the car to meet US standards. Because of this, the Beat won't be making it the US until the next generation.

This morning, CEO Rick Wagoner announced a plan for GM to conserve and raise $15 billion over the next year to help the company weather the weak US economy and slumping vehicle sales. The plan includes cutting salaried workers, reducing executive salaries, reducing salaried worker health care and slashing truck production. Camaro Z28 Shelved
Posted Jul 14, 2008 @ 11:30 pm

With the launch of the 2010 Chevy Camaro quickly approaching, muscle car fans everywhere eagerly awaited details on the Z28 variant. Today they got their wish, but it's likely not the kind of details they were hoping for.
Due to high gas prices and rising CAFE standards, there will be no 2010 Camaro Z28. While it is a disappointing announcement, we can at least be happy that the Z28 name won't be tarnished by a watered-down, castrated version in the name of fuel economy.
Speculation had the Camaro Z28 fitted with GM's new supercharged 6.2 L V8, the same engine that cranks out 500 horses in the CTS-V. With no Z28, the top of the line Camaro will be the SS.

RIP Acadia
Posted Jul 14, 2008 @ 11:19 pm

Think 4 lambda CUV's is overkill? Apparently, so does GM. It appears that the next-generation GMC Acadia is dead in the water. There is also speculation that the Saturn Outlook might bite the bullet as well, leaving only the Buick Enclave and the Chevy Traverse.
While the Acadia was a handsome crossover, we can't say we are too surprised at this news. After all, the Acadia isn't really a proper truck since it has uni-body construction.
Some will speculate that the cutting of products from GMC's already thin portfolio could mean that the brand is getting the axe. It would seem possible as GMC basically sells nothing more than rebadged Chevy trucks, but we don't necessarily agree. With the consolidation of GMC, Pontiac and Buick dealers, there really is no reason for any of these brands to have a very full lineup.

2010 Saturn Aura Put On Hold
Posted Jul 14, 2008 @ 11:09 pm

It appears the General has put the brakes on the 2010 Saturn Aura redesign. Based on the Opel Insignia, the 2010 Aura was to be more upscale and a whole lot sexier than it's current incarnation. It would have been the first vehicle stateside to ride on the new Epsilon II architecture.
The Fairfax, KY plant had been scheduled to begin production of the new Aura in mid 2009, but last week the plant received word that this would no longer be the case. Rumor has it that GM is rethinking the Aura's powertrain for fuel economy reasons in light of $4.00 gas.
All we can say is that it's disappointing to see such a good looking car be delayed in a market where GM really could use some help.

Silverado 1500 is CR Top Pick
Posted Mar 04, 2008 @ 10:07 pm

Consumer Reports has named the Chevy Silverado 1500 Crew Cab the Top Pick in the pickup segment. The Silverado is the first American vehicle to make CR's Top Picks list since 2005. While the Chevy pickup was the lone domestic vehicle on the list, CR did take make note of improving quality at GM and Ford. Here's what CR had to say about the Silverado 1500 Crew Cab:
The redesigned Silverado ($27,000 to $39,000) is considerably improved. It achieves a nice balance between work attributes and livability, including a generous payload rating, a comfortable ride, improved interior quality and steering feel, and easy access. ESC is standard on all crew-cab models. The GMC Sierra is virtually identical to the Silverado. The redesigned Toyota Tundra outscored the Silverado in CR's tests, but first-year reliability of the 4WD, V8 version was below average.
